Medicare Advantage Plans, also known as Medicare Part C or MA Plans, are bundled plans that combine Part A (Hospital Insurance), Part B (Medical Insurance), and, in most cases, Part D. (Prescription Drugs). Private companies sell the plans as popular alternatives to Original Medicare.
Medigap policies – or Medicare Supplement Insurance – are private insurance that covers only the policyholder. Spouses must purchase their own separate Medigap policy. They are sold by private health insurance companies to supplement Original Medicare in the “gaps”, like deductibles, coinsurance and copayments.
Prescription drug coverage is not included in original Medicare (Medicare Parts A and B). The price of your medicine may be covered by a Medicare Prescription Drug (Part D) plan. Each plan offers slightly varied coverage and medicine lists, but they all include regularly used generic and brand name prescription drugs.
